Rev. Julius H. McAllister Consecrated as 129th AME Bishop - At the 48th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference held in St. Louis, Missouri from July 4-12, 2008, Rev. Julius H. McAllister was consecrated as the 129th Bishop of the A.M.E. Church. 

Bishop Williams Reappointed to Serve 7th District (2008-2012) - At the 48th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference held in St. Louis, Missouri from July 4 -12, 2008, Bishop Preston W. Williams II was reappointed by the General Board to serve the 7th Episcopal District from 2008-2012.

7th District’s First Master of Divinity Online Graduating Class - On May 9, 2008, Payne Theological Seminary graduated eleven students with the Master of Divinity degree. Among that number were six degree recipients of note, five men and one woman, who became the first persons to earn the distinguished degree as distance learning students. The Reverends, Harvey Doctor, Archie Fair, Sinclair Frasier, David Owens, Jr., Angia Taylor, and Herbert Temoney, are all members of the 7th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the leadership of Bishop Preston Warren Williams II. Upon the denomination’s vote in 2000 decreeing that all of its ordained elders should possess the Master of Divinity degree, Bishop Williams enlisted the cooperation of Payne Theological Seminary’s Online Program for the fulfillment of this requirement. - (for more info click title)

There is now a tab along the left border of this website called "Find A Church." Visitors can now search for the closest 5 AME Churches within South Carolina and get specific distances and directions to those churches. Visitors can also search for any AME Church within South Carolina based on a variety of search criteria such as: church name, street address, city, AME district, zip code, etc.

Columbia District Opens Offices in Downtown Columbia, SC - On Saturday, March 8, 2008, for the first time in the 130 year history of the Seventh Episcopal District’s Columbia Conference, the Columbia District opened its own office space located in the heart of downtown Columbia. The new district offices are located at 1529 Hampton Street, Suite 100 and are housed in the same building which serves as the South Carolina Democratic Party’s statewide headquarters.
